New Jersey Wills and Trusts Attorney

Siegel & Siegel, P.C. is a Plainsboro law firm whose wills and trusts lawyers can prepare your individual estate plan.  It is very important to have a will, especially if you have children who are minors (less than 18 years old) and who will inherit your property and money.  Even if you don't have children or if your children are grown, it is important to have a will.  If you don't have a will, you are making your affairs much more difficult for your survivors.  A Judge may end up deciding who will take care of your children, their money.  A Judge may also wind up selecting who will administer your estate after you die.

The following is a guide of definitions and role players in a typical will that may be helpful to you in gathering the information you need so that your attorney can prepare your will:

Will - Your personal wishes as to how you want to protect your children and dispose of your property, when you die.

Testator - the person who makes a will.

Executor - the person or persons you select who will read your will and implement your wishes.

Beneficiary - the person or persons who inherit your property.

Trust - a legal provision where money is set aside for minor children or even adults in certain circumstances.

Trustee - the person who runs the Trust that you have created.

Guardian - usually, the person or persons to whom you give custody of your minor children when you die.

Power of Attorney - a document separate from your will where you appoint a trusted person to take care of your affairs if you are disabled, or perhaps even out of the country on a business trip.

Living will - a document where you select a trusted person to make your health care decisions if you are unable to make them by yourself due to illness.
